Language Translation – Need for medical interpreters to rise with health care reform

As more Americans get health insurance coverage, the demand for medical interpreters will likely increase.

Health care reform and the aging American population are both factors that will lead to more jobs in the medical field in the very near future.

In fact, according to statistics from the Bureau of Labor, nearly a quarter of all jobs created in the US through 2018 are expected to be in the health care industry.

Nurses, doctors and other medical staff will all be in sharp demand, promising new employment horizons in a difficult economy.

“Much of that growth is credited to the $940 billion Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act passed last March…with most set to take effect by 2014, “explains a recent article from NewAmericaMedia. “Analysts say one of the main results of the changes will be an increase of some 44 million newly insured Americans, more than half of them from immigrant communities where English is not the primary language.”

Journalist Aruna Lee points out that the Korean-American community will be one of the first to benefit from better health care and language services, as they are the country’s most under-insured ethnic group.

At Language Translation, Inc. we provide translation and interpretation services in over 40 languages, including Korean.
