Language Translation – Aging population needs medical translation services
In this blog, we have often reported on the increasing demand for medical services in the health care sector. But just why is the need for these services increasing?
The answers that spring to mind are a rise in LEP (limited English proficiency) patients in general, as well as stricter requirements for the provision of language services in medical settings.
But some of the demand simply boils down to a question of age.
A short and simple article published in The Bay Citizen points out a major factor in the growing need for medical translation and interpretation : an aging population.
Of course, as people get older, they have more health problems. And America's immigrant population is, well, aging right along with the rest of us.
And as they face their later years, they will need linguistic and cultural help navigating a health care system that is complex and confusing even for English speakers.
