The State of Illinois introduces new language translations for electronic unemployment insurance applications

The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) has announced that electronic applications for unemployment insurance benefits are now available in Spanish and Polish.

Department of Employment Security officials say online applications are preferable to those on paper because of accuracy and efficiency. The new Polish and Spanish language translations come following other changes implemented to assist State residents whose primary language is not English.

“Today’s news is a win for all taxpayers in Illinois because it increases access to services and saves taxpayer money,” IDES Director Jay Rowell said. “Translating additional on-line services allows us to serve people in a way that is more convenient for them.”

The agency converted key documents on its website last year to the four languages most requested other than English -- Spanish, Polish, simplified Chinese and Russian. Other translations are available upon request. The agency has had requests for more than 60 languages.

The IDES also sponsors the IllinoisJobLink help-wanted website. It features more than 100,000 job openings and 70,000 resumes of job-seekers.

The Department of Employment Security also offers no-cost recruitment services to Illinois businesses.
