Language Translation – The American Translators Association’s Medical Division

The Medical Division is the 3rd largest subgroup of the American Translators’ Association.

The American Translators’ Association is organized in various subgroups, or divisions. The Medical Division is the third largest specialty group in the ATA, and provides a number of resources to members and non-members alike.

“The purpose of the Medical Division is to promote cooperation and exchange of information among its members; organize meetings, workshops and conference activities related to medical translation and interpreting, and publicize professional development opportunities,“ explains the Division’s website.

As we posted in August, the Medical Division has a strong presence at the ATA Conference, which will be held this year in Denver from October 27-30th. The Medical Division is offering a full slate of subjects ranging from “Stress Busters in Interpreting” to a seminar on biomedical translation.

In addition to running its own website, the ATA Medical Division publishes a quarterly newsletter, Cadaceus, and manages a forum designed to create networks among medical translators and interpreters.

The Division’s website also offers a very complete list of online resources for medical translators. If you happen to be looking for patient information resources in Asian languages or a German-English health policy dictionary, this is the place to find it.
