Translators without Borders receives $10,000 donation

Financial contribution to help the organization in its efforts to fight language discrimination

Translators without Borders, a U.S.-based charitable organization that facilitates the transfer of knowledge to those in need, has announced its first Platinum Sponsor. Elanex, a global translation technology and services provider, has donated $10,000 to the non-profit organization which is dedicated to fighting language discrimination.

The financial support provided by sponsors is critical to sustaining and growing the organization, particularly in under-resourced languages.

"In the course of our work, we've become aware of a huge global need, which is for people in poor countries to be able to access global knowledge in their own language," explained Lori Thicke, co-founder of Translators without Borders.

“According to UNICEF more people die from lack of knowledge than from diseases,” she continued. “People in poor countries are simply unable to access global knowledge in a language they understand.”

The challenge that Translators without Borders undertakes is to build scalable solutions that bridge the language last mile, making global knowledge local and local knowledge global. The organization’s main activity is to connect the community of NGOs who need high-quality translations with professional vetted translators who volunteer their time to help.

Additionally, in places where whole communities lack access to critical knowledge because there are no translators, Translators without Borders is helping to build local translation capacity. The organization is piloting its first Healthcare Translation Training Center in Nairobi this week.

“Our goal is to turn every language barrier into a bridge to knowledge, and sponsors like Elanex enable us to give back to these communities, an important role for a leader in the industry,” said Thicke.
